Casey holds a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from West Virginia University and a Masters in Business Administration from Loyola College. Her clinical experience includes teaching at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, Pennsylvania's public health service, and more than 15 years of private practice with general dentists and periodontists. Her relevant business experience includes practice acquisition consulting for a national dental management firm and corporate management for a multi-million dollar, multi-site practice. She has many years experience in administration in municipal government and strategic planning for nonprofit organizations and higher education.

In 1998 Casey recognized the need to facilitate the transfer of research into everyday dentistry. It was then that she began to conceptualize an educational consortium which focused exclusively on developing hygienists as periodontal therapists and incorporating practical research into everyday practice. PointPerio was conceived shortly after this and began accepting its first clients in 2000.

Casey is a nationally renowned speaker/writer on implementation of periodontal-systemic research and a thought leader on implementing this research through dental-medical collaboration. Hein introduced the editorial vision and became the executive editor of Triage, a publication dedicated to the practical application of periodontal-systemic science, first distributed in June 2005. Past editorial experiences include the first authorship of the column “Perio Pathways” and numerous features and continuing education articles for Contemporary Oral Hygiene, and authorship of a 3 year running column in Dentists’ Money Digest. In October 2005, Casey created the vision for a groundbreaking publication called Grand Rounds in Oral-Systemic Medicine, and accepted the position as its Chief Editor. This publication will be the first to cut across the disciplines of dentistry and medicine to advance collaboration among the professional communities in the application of credible scientific research related to oral-systemic medicine.

Casey also serves on the advisory boards of several companies and as an independent consultant to the dental industry and think tanks. She is a member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, and the Speakers and Consultants Network.

As a lifetime learner and visionary, Casey is known for her ability to unit diverse professional stakeholder groups through introducing the dentist/dental hygienist/periodontist/medical community collaborative model of care. Her passion for clinical excellence and increasing accountability for optimal therapeutic outcomes drives her vision for the need for a collaborative model of care.
